Carolyn – CJ CUSTOM ART
WHAT DO YOU MAKE/SELL? TELL US ABOUT YO’ SELF:
I am an abstract acrylic artist who specializes in custom paintings for my clients. My paintings tend to be on the larger size and are full of movement, texture and rich colours. I have a in depth consultation process I use to work with clients ensuring I know what they love, hate, notice and want in art, capturing special memories on canvas when requested.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU HAD YOUR BUSINESS?
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I have enjoyed painting since I was in high school, more than 15 years ago, but 5 years ago I had the opportunity to take some classes and develop my skills in painting further. I soon found and started honing in on my own unique style, developing my confidence enough to start selling my work and offering custom orders.
WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOUR WORK?
I am completely inspired by the colours in nature. Hiking, gardening, running outdoors, cross country skiing and biking are all a big part of my life and when I am doing these activities I cannot help but be amazed by the nature around us and feel inspired to grab the colours I see and put them on canvas. The artist I have been most inspired by is local artist Samantha Da Silva. Her teaching style played a big part in helping me find my style.
WHAT DO YOU DREAM FOR YOUR BUSINESS IN THE FUTURE?
I dream of having my own studio, rather than painting in my basement, where I can have the ability to paint on massive canvases. I would also love to offer children’s abstract painting classes someday.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM AND WHY?
I have only recently joined Instagram earlier this year and have grown very fond of it. It is a very positive atmosphere and I feel most people are there to simply share, encourage and be inspired by others; it is a healthy place for artists.
HOW DO YOU PICK YOURSELF UP WHEN THINGS GO WRONG?
My husband is my stability and strength. When I am frustrated or anxious spending time with him sharing a bottle of wine or playing a game helps me talk things through and he gives me the reality check or the encouragement I need.
WHATS ONE THING NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT YOU? GIVE US AN INTERESTING FACT!
I was a trained pilot, at one point holding a private pilot’s license. About 10 years ago I was planning to go the distance to have a career flying but then I got married and the rest of life took over. I have no regrets but would love to fly again someday!
IF YOU COULD HAVE ANY SUPER POWER WHAT WOULD IT BE?
To be able to predict when someone is planning to cause harm to another….and then of course the muscles to do something about it.
