“Our business is based on building connections. Kemistry604 started with friendship, and we often find ourselves saying ‘Where would we be if we didn’t have each other?’.We recognize the importance of positive relationships, and for this reason, we continue to make it a top priority while moving forward as a company.

Here are a few of our favourite tips!

1.) Connect with Like-minded People – That starts with your business partner – if you choose to have one. Our biggest strength is our friendship. We have the same goals and morals and we are able to balance each other’s weaknesses. They often say ‘two heads are better than one’, and this couldn’t be more true in our situation. We are each other’s better half! Having your own business is extremely rewarding but also stressful at times. Being able to fully count on another person will take a lot of weight off your shoulders and allow you to be the best version of yourself.

As a new company, we find our favourite clients are often start-up companies themselves. We understand each other and share mutual respect. It’s been amazing to grow with other businesses where their success has been felt by us as well.

2.) Support Others and Receive Support

A.K.A ‘I scratch your back, you scratch mine’. We never intentionally choose to support someone in order to receive support. However, in our experience, the more we have encouraged and supported other businesses, the more love and support we have received. Be nice and authentic. It will take you further than you could imagine!

3.) Market Yourself

Consistency and quality are invaluable; let your work speak for itself. Since starting our business, it has been extremely important to only release our best work; work that we truly feel represents our ability and aesthetic taste.

4.) Be open to all opportunities (good or bad) –  because you never know where it can lead.

Our best jobs have come from the most random situations. Be adaptable. Over the years, we’ve made so many changes to our business (big and small). We try to recognize when something is or isn’t working and transition accordingly.

5.) Social Media Relations

I think at this point, the majority of us understand the power of social media – but how do you gain a following? Here’s what we’ve found to be effective:

‘The Social Media Challenge’

A very good friend of ours brought us up to date on this simple concept. We put it into practice a year ago and it has been a huge reason for our success on Instagram.

(YYC Girl Gang side note: These boss babes have 19.8 thousand instagram followers!)

What you’ll need:

1 Year Calendar

Social Media Platform

Content

The basic concept is to post 1 to 2 times a day for an entire year on a social media platform of your choice (or all social media platforms). We chose Instagram. Every day that you successfully post, cross off the day on your calendar. Through this practice, you will get in the habit of posting regularly. You’ll be putting out twice as much content and with that, gaining twice as much exposure.

To be honest, we found it extremely difficult at the start. Over time, we made it part of our job and scheduled times during the day when we would post. Eventually it got easier and seeing the results made it interesting.

Also, remember to take time to engage with your following. Reply to comments, follow back and check out local hashtags to find others working in your industry.”
