What do you make/sell, tell us about yourself?
I am a lifestyle photographer whose focus is on portraits and families! I have a soft spot for mama’s because too often they are behind the lens taking pictures of their kids so I like them to feel beautiful in front of my lens! I also love taking portraits of fierce boss babes in this city! Woo!
How long have you been in business?
Been in business since 2015
How did you get started?
In my other life I have worked as a Project Manager in the advertising world for the last ten years. With this role I have always worked with amazing photographers on various ad campaigns and knew that it was something I enjoyed and was interested in. With social channels being such a major part of our lives now, photography is something every person and business needs and I wanted to be a part of it! When I went on maternity leave with my first son in 2013 I finally had a little subject to follow around and learn from and then things just got rolling! I also learned from some amazing photographer friends like Lindsay from Lindsay Skeans Photography.
Who or what inspires your work?
My inspiration is the desire to make people feel good about themselves. I love seeing someone who is really nervous about getting in front of the camera love their photos of themselves. People are beautiful naturally and that’s what I love to capture in my sessions.
What do you dream for your business in the future?
I dream of collaborations with like-minded companies and photographers in Calgary. Amazing things happen when you collaborate and support each other I also would love to see a mom photographer group come together to help inspire each other to do more! I have started an account on instagram showcasing mom photographers. In the future I would love to start selling some of my prints. Stay tuned!
What’s your favourite social media platform and why?
Hands down Instagram! Its given photographers such an amazing platform to display their work. Its also allowed photographers a place to create community, get inspired and push yourself to do more.
How do you pick yourself up when things go wrong?
When things go wrong I usually pick up my camera. Some of my favourite photos have been from something going wrong. Use your negative feelings to create something positive and beautiful. Or drink wine. Wine is always good! 😉
Whats one thing people don’t know about you?
One thing that people don’t know about me…. I went tandem skydiving in Australia when I was young and free ha ha and when we went to jump, our parachute got stuck on the airplane on the way out. The pilot had to cut our chute free from the airplane, we then free fell for about 30 seconds and had to pull our reserve shoot. We landed and everything was cool but lesson learned.. always have a plan B! Life can be wild sometimes but things happen for a reason!
If you can have any super power what would it be?
My super power would be to fly! Then I wouldn’t have needed “said” parachute in the question above. I could also fly everywhere around the world and take rad photos! Also a dream of mine!
