Meet the boys of Dandy – and boy are they dandy in all senses! Ben, Matt, Derek and Dylan are the 4 manly men behind Alberta’s smallest commercial brewery. Like who honestly doesn’t want to start their own beer company? We’ll drink to that!

WHAT DO YOU MAKE/SELL? TELL US ABOUT YO’ SELF.
We are Alberta’s smallest commercial brewery. We produce small batches (3.5 Hl or 350L per batch) of carefully crafted ales right here in YYC. We have a unique brewhouse that we developed and built in house and use to this day.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU HAD YOUR BUSINESS?
Dandy incorporated in January of 2014, legally brewed our first batch in August 2014, sold our first case of beer in September 2014, opened up a tasting room/ fermentation expansion to 12 tanks in November 2015.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
Dylan and Ben had been home brewing together for about 7 years before Ben got all of us in a room, told us about a recent provincial legislation change, (allowing small breweries to exist instead of the 500,000 L minimum previous to December 2013) and convinced everybody it would be a wicked idea to start a small brewery. We all pooled some money together and agreed it would be cool to have a micro-brewery on the side of our career jobs. Turns out….Alberta really like our beers so we ALL went full time into Dandy as of March 2016.
WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOUR WORK?
Man, so much!!! Have to say people first and foremost. This is such a stellar industry to be in and the people that work with us, and consume our products are what make it worth while. Kinda like…everything ya know? Our environment, what we read, eat, see ect ect…
WHAT DO YOU DREAM FOR YOUR BUSINESS IN THE FUTURE?
Dandy wants to help grow the industry in Alberta, push for what’s never been done before and help to pave the way for producing new, great beers in the province.

HOW DO YOU PICK YOURSELF UP WHEN THINGS GO WRONG?
We like to drink beers, you know….quite a bit. Really though, between the 4 of us we work out issues as one unit, we also bounce ideas and challenges we face with other breweries and ya know, share experiences.

We currently have 155 active accounts in Alberta and 2 in Saskatchewan. We are in every Co-op liquor store, Vine Arts, 5 Vines, Oak and Vine ect… On draught we are at Midtown Kitchen, All 4 Nationals, Anju, Full Circle Pizza to name a few.
