There’s really nothing like the feel of a small boutique. As Andrea from Twenty Two Collective says “she tries to create the atmosphere of stepping into your best friends Parisan closet” in her shop out in Okotoks. Check her out!
Andrea – TWENTY TWO COLLECTIVE
What do you make / sell? Tell us about yo’ self.
I have a women’s clothing boutique in Okotoks AB, that features many locally made/ Canadian jewellery and accessories
How long have you had your business?
I just celebrated my one year anniversary!
How did you get started?
I decided one day that life’s too short to not chase your dreams. I bought a property with my husband, starting planning, got delayed due to a surprise baby, and then opened the store!
Who or what inspires your work?
I grew up loving fashion. My mum started out as a clothes designer in her early 20’s. She gave it up to raise her kids, but whenever I dreamed up an outfit, she would whip it together for me. I’m HORRIBLE at sewing, so opening a boutique was the next best thing for me.
What do you dream for your business in the future?
I dream that one day I will be able to expand a little. Not too much though. My vision for the store has always been a cozy space, where it feels like you’re stepping into your Parisian best friends closet, and everything is up for grabs. My dream is to be known as the place where you can pop in, and escape into another world for a little bit. Somewhere where you can find that perfect, special something.
What’s your favourite social media platform and why?
I think Instagram is my favourite. It’s such a great space for expressing creativity. Even when businesses are doing advertising, it’s always artfully and thoughtfully done. It’s so much fun!
How do you pick yourself up when things go wrong?
I mope for about 5 minutes, and then remind myself of all the times that mishaps and (at the time) disasters actually ended up being an opportunity in disguise. I just try to remind myself that even though it’s hard to see at the time, it’s for a reason.
That and a bit of chocolate never hurts. Or wine…..
What’s one thing no one knows about you? Give us an interesting fact!
My great Aunt was a stylist for Vogue in New York in the 40/50’s. I keep one of her vintage necklaces that was given to me under my counter, to have a bit of her in the store with me.
If you could have any super power what would it be?
The power to go from way too full, to hungry again, every Holiday dinner.
