What do you make / sell? Tell us about yo’ self.
I founded OutLash independently several years ago and worked solo prior to opening a full beauty boutique in the heart of Inglewood. We offer eyelash extensions, microblading, manicures and pedicures, a full nail bar and hair removal services.
How long have you had your business?
OutLash was founded in September 2012.
How did you get started?
OutLash begun out of boredom. At 18, I graduated from high school and worked in the oil and gas sector – surprise! However, I found that I didn’t have any hobbies outside of motorcycles (and even that was a budding interest). I decided to take the eyelash extension course in the hopes that it would keep me busy – and it did! Through word of mouth, my business as a solo technician grew endlessly that allowed me to leave my job and pursue a career in eyelash extensions.
Who or what inspires your work?
That feeling that my client gets every time she leaves from her lash bed. Women want to feel and look beautiful. The tiny hint of empowerment that I can give someone by helping boost their confidence inspires me daily. I know this may sound stupid to someone who’s never had their lashes done before but the best feeling I’ve ever had and led me to believe that picking an unconventional career was the right decision is having a client tell you that I’ve given them a little extra something, a little more confidence.
What do you dream for your business in the future?
I’d like to build a sisterhood where women can reach out to each other. OutLash is currently pursuing the flourishment of our retail division of eyelash extension products.
What’s your favourite social media platform and why?
If I had to choose – Instagram. It’s the most used platform of social media that you’re able to connect with so many other people from anywhere in the world. It provides so much inspiration – I’m constantly learning about new ways to better myself and my business.
How do you pick yourself up when things go wrong?
Backpack, hiking boots and a trail. There’s nothing that sets you right quicker than your two feet, a trail, and a some quiet time with yourself.
What’s one thing no one knows about you? Give us an interesting fact!
I’m an open book though lately everyone’s been very surprised to hear I LOVE travelling alone. I truly believe that it’s one of the greatest pleasures of life especially coming from a city like Calgary where we’re constantly driven by the work grind. Solo adventures are always fun because you do exactly what you’d like to do on your own time.
If you could have any super power what would it be?
Being two places at once or not needing sleep – ha! I’m always torn between pursuing work as much as I can because my passion drives me or just shutting off for a while and getting lost in the woods.
