What do you make / sell? Tell us about yo’ self.
I am the owner and Sr. Event Designer at Sugarcoat Wedding & Event Décor. As a kid, my family would always celebrate major milestones which exposed me to multiple types of parties and events. So naturally, I came to appreciate celebrations as they always brought joy to the person(s) who we were honoring. As I got older, I would always love taking lead on the planning and decorations for any event. I would feel honored when a friend asked me to plan their event, that they would bestow such a responsibility upon me. Because of my passion for decorating, I started SugarCoat Décor. As the Sr. Event Designer, I love working with brides and grooms, I love bringing their dreams to life, and I get to do it by “Sugarcoating” their most memorable celebrations!

Sugarcoat Décor will be celebrating our first birthday this spring
How did you get started?
As I always had a passion for decorating, it was only time that the universe brought this to my attention and smacked me in the face with a great opportunity. As the economy in Calgary was slowing down, I ended up getting laid off from my corporate position. It was becoming difficult to find new opportunities, so with the help of my husband, I decided now was the perfect to create my own opportunity. With a leap of faith and a supportive family by my side I decided to start my own decoration business. Few months later my cousin was getting married and once again the universe presented an opportunity to decorate, so I did, and from that event on its all history.
Who or what inspires your work?
My work and style is always inspired by emotions and moods. When decorating a wedding, engagement party, reception, bridal shower or birthday party, I always try to reflect my client’s emotions. If their event reflects excitement, or elegance or romance, I try to mimic those emotions in my event designs. Example, if they are ecstatic or over the moon about their reception party, I will add pops of vibrant colors to reflect those emotions.
What do you dream for your business in the future?
Our dream at Sugarcoat Décor is become the most recommended Event Decorating Company in C-town. Just like Walt said “Do what you do so well that people can’t resist telling others about you” – Walt Disney
What’s your favourite social media platform and why?
I love using Instagram! Instagram for us has been an amazing platform to connect with our clients, its an easy breezy way for us to express our style, personality and of course show off our work.
How do you pick yourself up when things go wrong?
Keeping a positive attitude is key! With the right mind set you can overcome any barrier. Also, thinking outside the box and being creative is crucial. Thankfully as a decorator creativity comes to me naturally…..well most of the time.
If you could have any super power what would it be?
To be at two places at once would be my ideal super power!
