WHAT DO YOU MAKE/SELL? TELL US ABOUT YO’ SELF.
Hey! I’m Karina, the bossbabe behind Infinity Weddings & Events! I plan, coordinate and decorate for some of the most funky, rad and out-of-the-box weddings here in YYC (I am far from cookie cutter!). I’m a wife and a mom of 3 (2 tiny humans and 1 fur baby). I work from home and get to hang out with my two munchkins all day – they definitely keep me on my toes! (who needs to go to the gym anyways when you could chase after your son?)
HOW LONG HAVE YOU HAD YOUR BUSINESS?
Infinity Weddings & Events became official in February 2014, with it’s official launch to the public on April 1st 2014 (no april fools joke there haha).
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I’ve always wanted to be a wedding planner, since the ripe age of 15! The idea for how my company was going to be, the branding and all, started to form in my brain in August 2012. I officially knew Infinity would become reality when it came time to make a decision to return to work full-time (after being on maternity leave with our daughter). So my husband and I decided that then was the perfect time – no longer a 5 year plan became an 8 month plan. I hustled hard to get all my ducks in a row – and come January 2014 when I was supposed to return to work, I got my business license and made the name official!
WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOUR WORK?
This is such a hard question for my line of work! Every day I am consistently inspired by all of the industry pros around me! But if I had to pick a few local talents – Lynn Fletcher I have always looked up to, along with Cathy MacRae who has been an incredible mentor to me, and Dustin Westling who always strays from the ordinary and his work is exceptional! Now when it comes to “celebrity” professionals in the wedding world – David Tutera is so inspiring – he thinks quick on his feet and is far from cookie cutter. Every day the wedding industry is changing, and I feel lucky just to be a part of the change and shift in momentum here in Calgary. We really have come far in the past 10 years!
WHAT DO YOU DREAM FOR YOUR BUSINESS IN THE FUTURE?
I would love nothing more than to have a little brick and mortar studio space, where anyone can walk in and be inspired and sit down for a cuppa joe and have a chat! It would literally be a dream of mine to have the ability to be able to chat with anyone that comes off the street! I love hearing peoples stories, so even if I just got to have some fun conversations that would definitely fill my love cup!
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM AND WHY?
I love instagram! I’m a very visual person, and I find that instagram you can reach a larger audience just by using hashtags. Facebook is great too – but the audience is limited. Instagram is great for inspiration – and to connect with other entrepreneurs! I’ve met some pretty rad people just by connecting through instagram 🙂
HOW DO YOU PICK YOURSELF UP WHEN THINGS GO WRONG?
I know that it’s not always going to be sunshine and rainbows. And let’s be honest – being an entrepreneur is really tough most days. But when I have my tough days, I turn away from my electronics (or try as best as I can), unwind and have some me time. That could mean watching a movie with the kids and hubby, having some great snacks (slurpees and chocolate a must!) – or it could mean listening to some wicked tunes, meditating or colouring (yes, I love those adult colouring books!). And then once I’ve given myself a little bit of time – I get back to the grind. No matter what industry you’re in, there is going to be drama and things won’t always go as a planned. So I try to separate myself away from negativity and focus on my mission on hand – getting rad folks down the aisle into wedded bliss!
WHAT’S ONE THING NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT YOU? GIVE US AN INTERESTING FACT!
Well I’m pretty much an open book – but if I had to choose one thing that MOST people don’t know about it – I have a CD on iTunes with my folk music stylings and singing. Also, my guitar’s name is Big Red, and she’s a beaut!
IF YOU COULD HAVE ANY SUPER POWER WHAT WOULD IT BE?
I would want to be able to freeze time – there are never enough hours in a day. And most times when I’m hustling hard – I often miss things that happen with my kiddos (though I’ve managed to see way more than my husband has been able to!). Those are precious memories that I would love to take a part in over and over again.
