Ellen – Prairie Bazaar

What do you make / sell? Tell us about yo’ self.
I curate vintage home goods with a bohemian flair. Right now, I’m obsessed with wicker, wood and brass home décor pieces and that’s mostly what you’ll find in my shop.
How long have you had your business?
I’ve officially had my business for one year (yay!) but I was dabbling in it before.

How did you get started?
When I was pregnant with my daughter almost 7 years ago I had this strong urge to “nest” as a lot of new mothers do. I was always on Pinterest and constantly redecorating our apartment. Since then I’ve spent a lot of time hunting for unique home décor pieces that are quality made and don’t cost a fortune. It took me a while but I eventually realized that I could create a business out of my passion for home decor.
Who or what inspires your work?
My mom is my biggest inspiration and she is the queen of decorating on a budget. She would thrift, salvage and upcycle pieces and create the most amazing spaces. Our dining room set growing up was a mid century teak table with matching chairs and our living room was filled with treasures from around the globe like Moroccan poufs and camel saddles. Her style is timeless.

What do you dream for your business in the future?
I would love to one day have a brick and mortar store where I could interact with my lovely customers on a daily basis.
What’s your favourite social media platform and why?
Instagram is hands down my favourite social media channel! I love browsing all the pretty photos and I’ve been able to connect with so many wonderful people through Instagram.
How do you pick yourself up when things go wrong?
Spending time with my family is one of the easiest ways for me to refocus when I have a hiccup in my business.

What’s one thing no one knows about you? Give us an interesting fact!
It’s hard to tell on social media but I am super introverted. Running a business where I need to be constantly promoting and sharing has definitely been a challenge for me!
If you could have any super power what would it be?
I’ve always wanted to be able to fly – how cool would that be?!
