Emilie – Maine Ethics
What do you make / sell? Tell us about yo’ self.
I am the founder of Maine Ethics, which consists of a blog, consulting and speaking services. My mission is to make ethical easier. Whether that be understanding complicated terminology and concepts, or finding responsibly made products, Maine Ethics is a place to learn and grow. Maine Ethics helps people on their journey of transforming their lives and in turn, the world, through engagement, thoughtfulness & activism. You can hire me for my consulting services for schools, individuals and businesses. I also lead workshops and you can also book me for speaking engagements. You can also browse my blog anytime for all sorts of information surrounding sustainability, social justice and ethical lifestyles.
How long have you had your business?
New! But I’ve been working in this field for over 7 years.

How did you get started?
When I first began my ethical lifestyle journey many years ago, I remember being so overwhelmed by the information out there. I wasn’t sure what products were being made under fair working conditions, I didn’t know the difference between organic and sustainable, I basically had a desire to make a positive change in the world, but didn’t know where to start. I was heavily involved in other social justice activism, and realized that I hold a lot of power to make a change simply through what I purchased. From there, I set out on a journey to learn more about ethical living, and connect with others who wanted to do the same.
Who or what inspires your work?
So many people inspire my work. From the radical activists who dedicate their lives to changing the world, to the person who is just starting out. Maine Ethics wouldn’t be possible without the encouragement and support of my friends and family. I’m mostly inspired by any one that cares about social justice issues.

What do you dream for your business in the future?
I dream that one day Maine Ethics will be able to have a brick and mortar store, where people can come in and both shop ethical products, but also have a space to learn and connect with other people. I want to foster an inclusive and supportive community of people who are committed to being conscious consumers and making the world a better place.
What’s your favourite social media platform and why?
I love Instagram. I’ve met so many incredible people through the platform. I think I was sliding into people’s DM’s before that was even a thing! I love being able to share beautiful pictures and stories, and have immediate contact with other people from all around the world.

How do you pick yourself up when things go wrong?
I definitely am a strong believer in setting aside time for self-care days. I know when something goes wrong, I need time to process and think through my next steps. Blasting music, dancing and eating ice cream (hello Fiasco gelato!) are crucial to ensuring that I’m in the mental headspace to continue forward.
What’s one thing no one knows about you? Give us an interesting fact!
If you could have any super power what would it be?
Being able to speak and understand any language. As someone who travels frequently, and loves connecting with other people, I would love to be able to understand and speak with everyone!
